My Journey To Now
-
Growing up I was the youngest of 4 born in 4.5 years. To keep up in this group, I learned to listen, observe and be ready to engage when invited. Importantly, I also learned how to be alone and somewhat patient. On an essential level, we are all alike in our humanity and yet our truths can seem very diverse. I feel compelled to make connections through the exploration of feelings because how we feel is a pathway to our truth. Understanding is essential for me. I believe this is why being an empathic therapist is both important and the most natural way for me to live and work.

Throughout my life of education and educating, I have come to know that understanding is more important than knowing, and feeling is more important than thinking if we want to live peacefully and joyfully. Getting beyond thought is where feeling and stillness are. I aim to create space for my clients to give attention to what is true versus the stories we tell ourselves. When we learn to accept what is, we can choose to access our sense of power, freedom, creativity and joy.

Everything can change at any moment. While this can be an intimidating idea, it can also be the source of vitality, creativity and empowerment if we curate our capacity to know we have choice. My role as a therapist is to enter empathically into people’s suffering with them and help them stay connected to their capacity for choice and truth. As Cornell West said “you must let suffering speak, if you want to hear the truth”.
